Boundary Community Hospital is again offering its annual free Sports Physical Clinic as a service to Boundary County student athletes. This year the event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 28.

For everyone’s safety, screenings this year will occur in a designated area of the Outpatient Services parking lot and the lobby. For parent convenience, families will be screened together.

Sign in at the coaches table outside and receive a number for the family. Proceed through the outside screening stations, in order, then wait for your number to come up to enter for the inside screening stations and provider physical exam.

Numbers will be on display on monitors near the Outpatient Services lobby door to limit the amount of families in the lobby at one time. Families must be signed in before 6:30 p.m. in order to complete the process.

Outside screenings include height, weight, vital signs and an evaluation of neuromusculoskeletal function, including range of motion, strength, balance and functional mobility.

Inside screenings include urine test, vision test and a physical exam and review of the screening results by a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner.

The completed forms are reviewed for completeness and then submitted to the coaches from Boundary County School District for inclusion in school records.

If you have students in grades seven, nine or 11 who plan to participate in sports, including cheerleading, in the 2020-2021 school year, then you will want to take advantage of this free event.

According to the Idaho High School Activities Association, these students will need to have a physical before the first practice starts. This also applies to those students that are new to the sports program who did not have a physical last year, even if in grades eight, 10 and 12.

Park and enter the special area at BCH Outpatient Services off Comanche Street. A parent must be present for the clinic.
