Four residents escaped a four-unit apartment fire in Bonners Ferry early this morning.

A four-unit apartment on Cedar Street in Bonners Ferry's Eaton Addition was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on scene just after 5 a.m. today, but all occupants were able to get out safely.

Firefighters arrived and brought the fire under control within half an hour, Bonners Ferry police and neighbors set ladders to assist three people who had climbed onto the roof to safety; a Bonners Ferry man kicked a door down to bring the fourth to safety with just moments to spare.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

If anyone knows clothes sizes or any special needs our displaced neighbors might have to help them recover, please email details to and we will help spread the word.

Editor's Note: Wayne Garrigan, manager at Community Thrift, 6783 Cody Street, said that any displaced by this fire and in need of clothing or other items should stop in or callĀ (208) 267-5359 for assistance. They are ready to help.
