Update, November 27: The juvenile who was transported to Sacred Heart succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

A 50-year-old Spirit Lake man was killed today in a two-vehicle collision on Spirit Lake Cutoff Road about six miles north of Spirit Lake, and a woman and two youth were hurt.

According to the Idaho State Police, John W. Hampton, 50, Spirit Lake, was driving a red Chevrolet Traverse SUV north on Spirit Lake Cut Off Road at about 11:23 a.m. when he drove left of center on a curve in the 57000 block and into the path of a southbound red 2004 Ford truck, driven by Josiah N. Thompson, 44, also of Spirit Lake.

Hampton's vehicle went into the northbound ditch and overturned while Thompson's Ford came to rest in the roadway.

Hampton was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger in Hampton's vehicle was flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center, Spokane, and a second juvenile passenger and Dawn M. Hampton, 39, Spirit Lake, were transported by ambulance to Kootenai Health, Coeur d'Alene.

Thompson was not injured. All occupants were wearing seat belts.

The collision closed the road for several hours and remains under investigation.
