Dry and sunny today with a touch of smoke

6:58 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018
It's Tuesday morning and the first day of public school on the west side of the metro, schools in Troy began last Wednesday. As you're driving in today, go a little slower and be a bit more aware and observant, and keep an eye out for those big yellow rigs ... please don't pass them when the stop sign is out and the red lights are flashing.

It's a bit smoky in the area today and our metro air quality this a.m. is moderate, and a cool start to the day with some frost out there. At 6:24 a.m., it was 44 in Bonners Ferry, 49 in Porthill, 33 in Eastport, 37 at MacArthur Lake and 30 in the Upper Pack. At 7:25 a.m. it was 37 degrees in Troy, 28 up in the Yaak country and 38 degrees down by Bull Lake.

A sunny and dry day in store across the metro today, with a high of 77 expected in Bonners Ferry and a couple days in the 80s ahead this week before we start seeing clouds over the weekend and a slight chance of rain starting next week.

We can expect 49 degrees at 8 a.m. in Bonners Ferry, 68 by noon and 77 by around 3 or 4 p.m. today, then back into the 70s by 7 p.m. The sun sets in Bonners Ferry at 7:21 p.m., we cool to 51 over night and the sun comes back big, bright and warm at 6:07 a.m. Wednesday.

In Troy, expect a high of 71 today with the hottest day of the week coming on Thursday with 82, and except for a couple of degrees cooler, the same sunny skies through Saturday, and the same slight chance of rain beginning at the start of the next work week.

Look for 46 degrees at 9 a.m. today, 61 at noon and a high of 71 at 6 p.m., then cooling into the 60s by 8 p.m. with sunset coming at 8:19 p.m. Sunrise Wednesday is at 7:06 a.m. and you should see about 44 degrees for an overnight low.
