Some 860 students from across the Washington State University system celebrated December 7 as new graduates during Fall Commencement. Among them was Crystal Lederhos Smith, Bonners Ferry, who earned her doctorate in prevention science, adding a PhD to her name.

Penni Jo Smith, 72, passed away, December 31, 2019, at home in Troy from multiple myeloma cancer. Penni’s memorial service will be in the spring, where she and her husband Gary will be placed together once again in their family plot at Milnor Lake Cemetery.

Philip Donald Broesch, 75, passed away January 16, 2020. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 East Haycraft Avenue, Coeur d’Alene, with a reception to follow at the American Legion Hall, 1138 East Poleline Avenue, Post Falls.
